it's january,

2 min read
and I have some terrible and wonderful news.

First the bad: my beloved, darling, rednikoncoolpix L18 got broken on new years.
Yeah.

And what better time for it to break, RIGHT before I go out of town for 2 weeks. I was pretty devastated. I mean, I still have my D90 but I've had my prettylittlecamera for about a month point five and it just sickens me to see LENS ERROR on the beautiful 3" lcd instead of pretty pictures.

Thankfully, it's under warranty still. But who knows how long it'll take until they send it back.

The good news: my parents agreed to buy the blue version of the camera (which is apparently hard to find now, in stores, because it's discontinued) and let me borrow it. This is actually a pretty big deal. Except now I feel so afraid to take it out of the case. Because it's not mine. And as it is, I'm extremely careful with any and every piece of camera equipment I come into contact with. Whatevvv.

Other good news: I'm leaving in THREE days. I'm so excited. I should probably actually start packing, or at least picking out clothes to wear until tuesday that I don't feel like packing. 2 weeks is a long time to pack for. And I'm so ridiculously pumped.

Oh. And I have a flickr now. www.flickr.com/reneechristinephotog Well, I've had one since November but I upload less because I don't have a pro account and being an actually photographer, everything that I upload is high resolution and takes up my alloted file space for the month. You can bet there'll be a lot of pictures from Maine though.

I can't wait.

Shall I count the ways?

The semester is over.
I got A's in both of my photo classes.
A's.
I did much better in my color concept development class than I thought. I was actually pleased with my grade. It happens to be the same one I got for Design I.
And I'm sure I did fine in my adv graphic design class.
If only I had the Adobe suite on my computerrrrr.
Oh well.

This entry isn't meant to be full of whines. Because possibly, I'm way too happy.

My teacher for b/w actually said something really nice about me in my portfolio review. And she tends to be oppositional and more harsh on people. She basically said that I have something that the vast majority doesn't, when it comes to having an eye and intuition in photography. And that given what I know, especially my Adobe experience, as soon as I get my bachelor's I'll be extremely marketable. And that I could get a job like 'that' *snaps fingers*. And I was like, yayyyy.

Besides the fact that I'm done with my 3rd semester, and am proud of my grades, I NOW HAVE MY NIKON. Yes folks, that's right. My D90. With an 18-105 and 70-300 lenses. It finally came last night and it's basically amazing. I played with it a little around midnight, but in a little while I'm going to try the movie mode and all that fun stuff. And actually maybe read some of the directions. Some. Though, it's SO easy to use. And so lightweight. And balanced. And perfect. And Nikon makes my life.

In addition to all this, I FINALLY got my check from the board of elections. So as soon as it clears in my account, I'm buying plane tickets to Maine. You better believe I'm bringing my camera too. It's so great. Like, I have a case for it and the lenses and such. And it fits PERFECTLY in my carry on. Like, it was made to fit inside my KathyVanZeeland luggage. Gone are the days of simply putting it all through the x ray machine, but really. Who cares. I just hope they're careful when they rifle through my camera bag to make sure i'm not secretly hordeing any razor blades. Heh.

ALSO, tonight is the first night of the Christmas program at Church that I'm singing in. It's not a play. I really dislike participating in plays. It's a bunch of songs with random
video and audio/spoken interludes. It's pretty sweet. You should go. alcclife.org/article15a.htm

The end.

Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. And all that fun stuff.

ok. so.

i've dropped 2 of my classes, leaving me with a grand total of 4 (one was only for a half semester). I mean, i'm still above the requirement for being full time, buttttt i'm probably going to get my degree at the beginning of july. which isn't too terrible, really. honestly, i just hate online classes. i need a classroom environment.
the rest of my classes are going swimmingly though.

in other news, i was elected prez of the photo club, which is pretty sweet. it'll look nice on my resume and besides that, it seems like there are only a few of us who are serious about jumpstarting the club here. like, it has existed in the past but no one considered doing the proper paperwork to actually get us funding from the school. sooo we've taken the steps and appropriate action and we have some start up funds and shows to get ready for! it's pretty exciting.

oh, and my nikon d90 (in addition to extra battery and memory and case and two lenses and tripod and maybe flash with diffuser) is finally within reach. i only need a couple hundred or so more for it, and apparently the remaining balance i need will be a (or rather, THE) early christmas present from my parents. whichhhh is needless to say, pretty grand. i'm so excited for the fact that i won't have to turn clients away anymore.

so that's pretty much all i have to say this time around. except for the fact that i'm working my first election tomorrow. 16 hour work day. wooo. it's worth it for the money though, honestly.

yeahhh.
